Cloud Computing and Cyber Physical Systems

International Workshop 2016

Conference Scope

Cloud computing is one of the major technologies that is revolutionizing the computer industry and is transforming our society. It enables enterprises and governments to dynamically adapt their computing infrastructure to meet the rapidly changing requirements with greatly reduced complexities of IT management. Overwhelming digitization in various sectors and the emergence of digital economy, on the other hand, is opening up several opportunities for the government to provide novel services to citizens using solutions based on IoT (Internet of Things) and Cloud. However, governments face serious challenges while delivering these services due to potential for security threats and privacy issues. This is the right time for leading technologists, practitioners and policy makers from India and abroad to come together and explore the opportunities to leverage leading-edge technologies and associated standards to make solutions robust, affordable and accessible and effectively improve the productivity and lifestyle of citizens.

The Workshop is intended to be a unique platform to bring together national and international experts from Industry, Academia, Government, and Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) to enable discussions on vital topics of relevance to the technology space. This is urgent in the context of the ambitious plans of the Govt of India, especially initiatives like Digital India.

Organisers

The conference is being organised by the Cloud Computing Innovation Council of India (CCICI) and the National institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), a lab of national importance of the Dept. of Commerce, Govt of USA. The conference is supported by the Dept of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) of the Govt of India, and the IEEE Computer Society.

CCICI is an open platform aimed at bringing together subject matter experts across government, industry, and academia to collaborate and innovate with the objective of accelerating the emergence of the Indian IT ecosystem as a strong global leader in Cloud Computing technologies for emerging markets. Since it’s inception in 2012, CCICI has successfully brought together a large number of technical experts with deep experience and authored an authoritative whitepaper on Cloud Computing in 2014. This was published by IEEE.

NIST is, the renowned US Government lab which has played a pioneering role in setting standards, technology roadmaps and publishing documents on Architecture, Definitions, Security and Privacy Guidelines, for facilitatinge adoption of ‘Cloud First’ policy of the US government.

Conference Format

Lasting three days, the workshop will cover:

  • Current Status of Technology and Opportunities, issues and challenges for Cloud and IoT adoption and road-map for India
  • Perspectives on standards and policies from experts, practitioners and policy makers in India and abroad to make the adoption a viable business proposition
The three day workshop is expected to be attended by over 250 participants. It will have keynotes from thought leaders from industry and academia, plenary sessions and panel discussions. It will also provide a platform for industry experts to network with their peers from India and overseas.

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), founded in 1901 and now part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is one of North America’s oldest physical science laboratories. NIST measurements support the smallest of technologies—nano-scale devices to the largest and most complex of human-made creations, from earthquake-resistant skyscrapers to wide-body jetliners to global communication networks. NIST has played a crucial role in the evolution of cloud computing – starting from definition of terminologies, characteristics & standards. NIST can as well be called as a founding organization for cloud computing in the world.
